Black and Kemp Speak About the Maintaining Conservative Principles for the Future
ATHENS,GA- Gary Black,president of the Georgia Agribusiness Council, and Brian Kemp, republican candidate for Secretary of State, will be speaking at the University of Georgia College Republican meeting on February 4, 2009 about maintaining conservative principles for the future. With decades of experience in business, agriculture and politics they will offer their views, experience and outlook on conservatism and its role in Georgia
“In a time when Republicans are on the rebound, it is important to remember to maintain the principles that represent who are are,” said Greg Wilson, Chairman. “I am excited to hear Brian Kemp’s and Gary Black’s vision for the future of the Republican Party and the State of Georgia. Having two men of such knowledge and caliber speaking together is unheard of.”
Gary Black is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in Agriculture Education, and has served the agriculture community for over twenty-five years in various aspects, ranging from Farm Bureau, the Governor’s Rural Development Council, and currently President of the Georgia Agribusiness Council.
Brian Kemp is business owner in the Athens area, and was elected to the State Senate in 2002, where he served until 2006. Kemp is a graduate of the University of Georgia. Kemp is currently running for Secretary of State in 2010, as a result of the office being vacated by Karen Handle to run for Governor.
“In 2010 voters will head to the polls to elect state-wide constitutional officers such as Governor, Agriculture Commissioner and Secretary of State. Is is important to Republicans to learn about what the future holds for the Republican Party in the State of Georgia so they can make informed choices,” Wilson said.
The meeting is being held in room 214 of the Zell B. Miller Student Learning Center at 7:00 PM. Pizza will be provided.

ATHENS,GA- The University of Georgia College Republicans is hosting an internship information session featuring Paul Welch, Director of Undergraduate Student Services at the School of Public and International Affairs , at their meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2009.
Students, who have had internships ranging from Congress in Washington to the General Assembly in Atlanta, and also the Georgia Republican Party, are speaking about their past experiences and encouraging others to enter internships.
“I can personally attest to the value of a summer internship in adding to the academic experience of college,” said Greg Wilson, Chaiaman of UGA College Republicans. “If students want to gain hands on experience in politics, government, or public policy then a summer internship is key.”
Paul Welch, is speaking on how to receive credit for you internships from the University and the value of summer internships.
“This is a great opportunity on how to gain real world experience while earning college credit,” said Christie Haynes, Executive Director of UGA College Republicans.
The meeting is held at 7:00 PM at room 214 in the Zell B. Miller Student Learning Center.

National Committeewoman Speaks to UGA Republicans on Future of the GOP
ATHENS,GA- The University of Georgia College Republicans held their first meeting of the Spring Semester on January 14, 2009. The speaker for the evening was Linda Herren, RNC Commiteewoman, who spoke about the RNC Chairmans race and the future of the Republican Party.
“Our message was not bad, we just need to convey it better,” Herren said about the GOP. She explained that Republicans need to he held accountable, and not to be unclear on their meaning. “Our base said, ‘What is the difference between a Republican and Democrat?’”
The Republican National Committee will elect a new chairman at their Winter Meeting on January 28. Currently the candidates for chairman are: Mike Duncan (Current), Saul Anuzis, Michael Steele, Katon Dawson, Ken Blackwell, and Chip Saltsman.
“Everyone is very qualified,” Herren said. She explained that she has either been contacted by all the candidates personally, or by their representatives. “I have made no decision, but I have a short list.” She informed the meeting that the Republican National Committee was well divided, and that the two other Georgia members of the RNC are still undecided.
Mrs. Herren has been on the RNC since 2004. Herren also has been active within the Republican Party in many positions since 1972. In addition, Herren is currently President of the Georgia Board of Nursing. Mrs. Herren is married to her husband, Preston, and have on child and two grandchildren.
“As young Republicans, it is exciting to hear that about the changes coming to the Republican Party,” said Greg Wilson, Chairman of the UGA College Republicans. “While our party is down, we are not out. These next two years are a chance to re-build our party, energize the base and prepare to win back seats in 2010.”

ATHENS- The University of Georgia College Republicans is having our first meeting for the Spring Semester of 2009 on January 14, 2009 at 7:00 PM in Room 214 of the Zell B. Miller Student Learning Center.
Our speaker is Linda Herren. Mrs. Herren is a member of the Republican National Committee from Georgia and is speaking on the subject of RNC Chairman race, along with the future of the Republican Party.
“The GOP faced a tough loss on November 4th, 2008. We are very lucky to have Linda Herren to discuss the future of the Republican Party,” said Greg Wilson, Chairman. “We have not given up, but are hard at work to rebuild the party”
