Athens Tax Day Tea Party A Success!!
On April 15th, over 275 college students and working Americans came together at the Arch in downtown Athens to show that we will not be silent anymore. The rally featured State Representative Bob Smith, State Senator Bill Cowesrt, CR Chairman Greg Wilson and Congressman Jack Kingston. We also received letters of support from Congressman Paul Broun and US Senator Johnny Isakson.
It was evident that “we are not alone” and that a movement has begun in America. There were over 800 tea parties held across America and the attendance estimates are at over half a million.
As I told the attendees of the tea party today is the beginning of a movement, not the end. I left the attendess with three key points.
1. Get Educated–It is important for conservative and people who believe in limited government to be educated on the issues, follow the news and work to counter liberal media bias.
2. Get Trained–More than just showing up here today, we must get trained in order for us to be effective in advancing our cause. Organizations such as the Leadership Institute, FreedomWorks, GOPAC and the American Majority Fund offer grassroots training.
3. Get involved–If we are going to make a difference in our communities, our state and our nation we must join our local political parties, join campaigns and make sure we have a voice.
