This week we have a great meeting planned with Secretary of Stated Karen Handel addressing us on the Georgian issue of Voter I.D. Karen Handel was elected in November 2006 and sworn into office January 8, 2007, as Georgia’s first Republican Secretary of State. At this meeting, Secretary Handel will discuss the implications of the voter identification requirement. Our meeting will be held this Wednesday, March 5, at 7 p.m. in Caldwell 304.
The College Republicans hosted their first candidates’ debate of 2006 Wednesday night at the University Chapel. The event featured Georgia State Senator Bill Stevens and Fulton County Commissioner Karen Handel, the GOP candidates for Secretary of State.
The candidates each fielded ten questions, offering their views on such issues as the Voter ID bill, the Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act, and the needed streamlining and modernization of the office of Secretary of State.

State Senator Bill Stephens will be speaking at our meeting this week about his campaign and decision to run for the Georgia Secretary of State.
Senator Stephens was the the Senate Majority Leader for the 2005 Georgia Assembly, and also was the Director of Communications and spokesperson for Governor Zell Miller from 1989 to 1991.
