The Logic of Milton Friedman
As I open the Wall Street Journal every morning and check the Drudge Report during the day it seems that the economy is only getting worse. President Obama’s stimulus plan, bank bailouts and other keynesian attempts at turning the economy around are not working. Today I stumbled across some YouTube clips of Milton Friedman. Most of us were too young to have watched Milton Friedman on TV, read his newspaper columns or see him speak, but we can look back and listen to his advice. Friedman is more eloquent and more persuasive than any economist or politician that I have seen on TV or heard in person.
I think that President Obama also needs to watch this video in which Professor Friedman talks about the relationship between government and the poor. He discusses how a good intentioned government action can do more harm than good. Friedman cites the example of minimum wage, but in our present age this could be applied to Card Check, higher taxes on the wealthy or any of his other policies.
Have a great spring break!
